Nano-enabled solar driven-interfacial evaporation: Advanced design and opportunities

Solar-driven interfacial evaporation (SDIE) is emerging as a promising pathway to solving the worldwide water shortage and pollution. Nanomaterials (e.g., plasmonic metals, inorganic/organic semiconductors, carbon nanomaterials) related nanochemistry have attracted increasing attention for solar-to-vapor process in terms of broadband absorption, electronic structure adjustment, surface/interface chemistry manipulation. Furthermore, assembly nanomaterials can contribute mass transfer, heat management, enthalpy regulation during solar evaporation. To date, numerous nano-enabled materials structures been developed improve management (i.e., confinement transfer), activation, evaporation, replenishment). In this review, we focus on systematical summary about composition engineering SDIE, including size morphology effects, nanostructure optimizations, structure-property relationship decoupling. This review also surveys recent advances preparation structural chemistry) deployed conceptual design nanomaterials. Finally, key challenges future perspectives are overviewed. aims at providing guidance construction high-efficiency SDIE basis aspects science chemical engineering.
